Dr. Leo Tjäderhane DDS, PhD, is Professor and Discipline Chair, Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Diseases, Faculty of Medicine, University of Helsinki, Helsinki, Finland
Dr. Tjäderhane received his DDS in 1986, PhD in pulp biology in 1995 and certificate in Cariology, Restorative Dentistry and Endodontics in 2000, all from the University of Oulu, Finland. In 1995-1996 he worked as a post-doc in the University of British Columbia (Vancouver, Canada). In 2001-2002 he worked as an assistant professor in Department of Endodontics, University of Toronto, Canada, and 2002-2003 at the University of Helsinki, Finland. From 2003 until 2008 he worked as an Academy Research Fellow for the Academy of Finland. From 2008 until July 2015, he was a professor and chair of the Department of Cariology, Restorative Dentistry and Endodontics in the University of Oulu, Oulu, Finland. Currently, he is a professor in Cariology and Endodontics and the head of the undergraduate dental program at the University of Helsinki, Finland. He also serves as a research manager at the Research Unit of Oral Health Sciences, University of Oulu, and as the consulting head physician at the Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Diseases, Helsinki University Central Hospital, and maintains a private practise limited to endodontics in Helsinki.
Dr. Tjäderhane has authored or co-authored over 180 scientific articles in international journals and over 40 articles in domestic dental journals. He received Buonocore Memorial Award in 2014, and serves as the Board Member and the Chairman of the Research Committee for the European Society of Endodontology (ESE). He has acted as a Guest Editor for Endodontic Topics and is also an Editorial Board member of the International Endodontic Journal, Journal of Endodontics and Journal of Dental Research.
